Laparoscopic Gastric Bypass

The Most Widely Used Weight Loss Surgery Technique

The gastric bypass procedure also known as the Roux-en-Y gastric bypass is the most widely used technique for weight loss surgery, and has the best record for long-term weight loss of any bariatric surgical procedure. The laparoscopic gastric bypass or minimally invasive surgery is a technique that has the advantage of quicker recovery times and less post-surgical pain than the open technique used by most surgeons. Instead of the long incision used in open surgery, the laparoscopic surgeon inserts surgical devices, including a small camera, into several small incisions. The surgeon uses a television monitor to see inside the patient’s abdomen as he performs the surgery. The laparoscopic gastric bypass is technically difficult and requires special training. It has a steep learning curve, requiring much more experience and a high volume of cases to maintain the skills necessary to perform this procedure safely. Surgeons who do not perform a large number of cases each week often require 4 to 6 hours to perform the complex maneuvers of laparoscopic gastric bypass, while a surgeon who is specially trained and who performs a large number of cases each week will complete this procedure in less than 2 hours. Major surgery using general anesthesia that takes more than 2 hours significantly raises the risk of patient complications.

The Barix Clinics Weight Loss Surgery Training Program requires that every surgeon be trained and demonstrate the skills necessary to perform the laparoscopic gastric bypass safely and quickly. Barix Clinics’ surgeons have performed more weight loss surgeries over the last 20 years than any other organization in the United States, and they also perform other bariatric procedures such as lap band and laparoscopic gastric sleeve surgery. Barix has developed proprietary surgical techniques and patient care procedures that result in the lowest rates of complication for laparoscopic gastric bypass as determined by independent medical review organizations. That is why Barix Clinics is America’s Leader in Weight Loss Surgery.
