TESTS FOR GASTRIC BYPASS SURGERY
Our thorough presurgery testing and education help ensure your success.
After your initial consultation, we'll help determine exactly what your insurance company requires and any physical tests that may be medically necessary. Our experience with thousands of bariatric patients helps us limit medical tests to only those that are necessary. Depending on your current health, your surgeon may ask you to meet with a medical specialist - such as a cardiologist - before you have Roux-en-Y surgery.
About a week before your surgery we'll perform a final round of tests and examinations, including one by a bariatric internist to verify that you're medically ready for surgery. And you'll meet with a bariatric-focused respiratory therapist who will perform an assessment of your respiratory health and help you be ready for the day of surgery. Your respiratory therapist may suggest breathing exercises to ensure your health and healing.
You'll also begin Barix Clinics' education program, which teaches you the skills and behaviors necessary for substantial, sustained weight loss. You'll meet with a registered dietician, who will start teaching you about nutrition, and a nurse to begin talking about a healthier life.
