Gastric Bypass  |  1997 My Life Before Bariatric Surgery Before I had surgery, I felt like I was wearing one of those fat suits – like Eddie Murphy wore in ‘The Nutty Professor.’  I was disgusted with myself.  I felt like a failure, especially about losing weight.  On top of that, my joints ached all of the time and my blood pressure was sky high.

I was a pilot and didn't feel that I had the respect of my co-workers because of my weight.  I had little confidence to make new friends.  Even my relationship with my wife was impacted by my weight, I just didn't feel worthy of her love. 

Making the Decision 

Surgery scared me a bit; but I was determined to save my life.  I had tried Weight Watcher's, Jenny Craig, T.O.P.S., Atkins, fasting, etc., etc., etc.  I always lost weight quickly, but I could never keep it off. 

Everyone that I met at Barix Clinics had a sincere interest in my success.  That meant a lot to me.  Most of the stress of surgery is eliminated because the patient knows exactly what to expect.  There is a confidence in choosing Barix because bariatric surgery is their specialty.

How My Life Has Changed

I lost weight more quickly than I expected.  Food is fuel to me now.  I still eat until I'm full, as before, it's just not as much food.  I eat 5 or 6 times a day and I'm never hungry.  It's like heaven. 

I'll never forget the first time I played basketball after I'd lost weight.  I felt like I was flying.  I also lift weights regularly now and can now see the results. 

I now have the confidence to approach new people and make friends.  They see me now, not my fat.  Losing the weight gave me the confidence to get out of the airline industry, which I hated, and work for myself.  I'm now an actor and model.  It is extremely rewarding for me. 

To Those Considering Bariatric Surgery

I have absolutely no regrets about having bariatric surgery.  It is the single best decision I have ever made in my life.  If you have a family member or friend that is seriously overweight, your support for this procedure could save their life.
