YOUR SAFEST CHOICE

"I had thought about other facilities but I am so glad I choice Barix Clinics. I did my homework and found out that at other hospitals have a lot more infections and complications. Everyone I know that went to the other place I thought about going to had nothing but problems. --Sherri R.

Patient Safety is a Result of Surgeon Experience and Hospital Capability

Barix Clinics was founded upon the premise that when a surgeon and a hospital specialize in treatment for one medical condition, morbid obesity, then certain critical things happen.

First, only the doctors and caregivers who are really committed to helping the bariatric patient will be interested in joining this type of healthcare organization.

Second, because we only do bariatric surgery, the skills of the surgical teams improve to the highest possible performance levels.

Third, the patient outcomes from surgery are the best and safest in the medical specialty of bariatric surgery.

Fourth, over the last 30 years Barix Clinics has successfully completed more bariatric surgeries than any other organization.

Fifth, because all of our team members are dedicated to caring for the special needs of the bariatric patient, these patients receive the best service experience and care in the industry, as rated by an independent customer service rating group.

Risks of Bariatric Surgery and Major Surgery

Weight loss surgery, or bariatric surgery, has been performed for more than thirty years.  As a result of the many technical innovations and improvements in surgical techniques, the safety record for bariatric surgery has improved significantly. But despite all of the improvements, it is still considered major surgery and still has both general surgical risks and ones specific to bariatrics. For example, major surgery risks include blood clots or pulmonary embolism, respiratory complications (especially during operations lasting more than two hours), infection, and heart failure.  Heart condition may be evaluated prior to surgery, but problems can still occur, even if the patient has passed a cardiac stress test. In addition to the general surgical risks, specific bariatric risks include anesthesia intubation problems, leaks due to perforation of the stomach or connections created as part of the procedure, and bowel obstructions.  Nutritional problems after surgery  require periodic testing and monitoring. The risks listed above are not all inclusive, and every patient must review these risks personally with the surgeon and anesthesiologist.  There is no substitute for experience on the part of the surgical team and capability on the part of the hospital where the surgery is performed.

Barix Clinics, the National Leader in Bariatric Surgery

Barix Clinics can claim to be the national leader in bariatric surgery because over the last 30 years and with more than 50,000 successful surgeries completed, the performance of the surgeons and the teams of professionals they lead have compiled a performance record that no other organization can equal. This record started with Barix Clinics being dedicated to following the standards set by the National Institute of Health in 1992 and we continue to follow these standards today.  The Barix network of hospitals is fully accredited for acute care hospitals with both Medicare and Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Facilities certification.

Independent reviews such as CareChex Hospital Quality Ratings consistently recognize Barix Clinics, as the safest hospital in America for bariatric surgery. CareChex is a leading hospital ranking system that insurers and major employers trust to provide objective evaluation of healthcare providers across the U.S.

In another independent study performed by a major American university, Barix Clinics outcomes over a 3-year study period were consistently rated the best over all other hospital bariatric programs. In one category, life-threatening complications, Barix Clinics’ complication rate was 1/25th of the ratio for the other hospitals included in a statewide study of all bariatric hospitals. In this same study of more than 9,000 patients, Barix Clinics accounted for more than 1 out of every 3 patients studied.

Barix Clinics patients who evaluated other programs select Barix because of the superior Barix performance record that has continued to improve over the last 30 years of dedication to providing the best bariatric surgery outcomes possible.
