Making the Decision
After you contact Barix Clinics we will set up a consultation for you with a surgeon who will discuss the type of weight loss surgery that fits best with your health history. At your consultation your surgeon will discuss the following bariatric surgery options:

  • Gastric bypass (also known as Roux-en-Y gastric bypass) is the most commonly performed bariatric surgery. It helps you lose weight by surgically decreasing the size of your stomach, decreasing hunger hormones, and bypassing part of the small intestine. Recent studies have found that gastric bypass surgery works better than medication at resolving Type 2 diabetes and other insulin-related illnesses.
  • Adjustable gastric band surgery (also known as lap band surgery, LAP-BAND® and Realize® Band) is a restrictive surgery. Lap band surgery reduces the amount of food that can be eaten at a meal and helps you feel full longer—which may allow you to eat less and lose weight.
  • Gastric sleeve surgery (also known as sleeve gastrectomy) helps patients lose weight by reducing the stomach size and hunger hormones present in the stomach. Most patients lose 60-80% of their excess weight.
