You’ve experienced dramatic weight loss after bariatric surgery. Congratulations! Barix+Plus, our advanced body contouring surgery program, is here for you as you take the next steps on your weight loss journey.

Patients who have experienced dramatic weight loss after bariatric surgery or weight loss medication often need advanced body contouring surgery.

What is the Barix+Plus Advanced Body Contouring Program

  • Patients after bariatric surgeries often experience dramatic weight loss. Dramatic weight loss changes your life for the better but often results in excess skin that impacts your health and quality of life.
  • Excess skin causes medical complications, including rashes, fungal infection, hernias, pain, limited mobility, difficulty doing everyday tasks.
  • Advanced body contouring surgery (also known as reconstructive surgery) removes this excess and loose skin while also tightening underlying supportive tissue. The most common surgeries for bariatric patients are panniculectomies which remove excess skin from the abdomen.
  • The Barix+Plus program was uniquely developed for patients with dramatic weight loss building on our experience through Barix Clinics working with weight loss patients for over 30 years. We listen to experiences of patients like you to find what procedures you need after dramatic weight loss.

Frequently Performed Surgeries and Procedures

MAJOR PANNICULECTOMY (270+degree circumference)

This procedure is most often required by post-bariatric surgery patients that have lost more than 150 lbs. and have an extreme quantity of excess skin that must be removed. The surgery removes the excess skin and tissue from the front of the abdomen, the side of the abdomen, and around the back of the patient. During major and medium panniculectomy, surgeons will also often tighten underlying tissue. Post-surgery patients typically stay one to two nights in the hospital.

MEDIUM PANNICULECTOMY (180-degree circumference)

This procedure is most often required by post-bariatric surgery patients that have lost more than 75 lbs. The surgery removes the excess skin and tissue from the front of the abdomen of the patient. During major and medium panniculectomy, surgeons will also often tighten underlying tissue. Post-surgery patients may require a one night stay one in the hospital.

MINOR PANNICULECTOMY (Tummy Tuck)

This procedure is most often required by weight loss medication patients who have lost between 30 to 75 lbs. The surgery removes excess skin and tissue from the front of the abdomen of the patient. Because this procedure is less complex than other panniculectomy and surgery times are shorter the post-surgery patient may not require an overnight stay in the hospital. If you are someone who has less excess abdominal weight loss but still loose skin, you may be a candidate for minor panniculectomy/tummy tuck.

BREAST REDUCTION (Reduction Mammoplasty)

A breast reduction is a surgical procedure that removes excess skin and fat, decreasing the breast and reducing the appearance of sagging after weight loss.

BREAST LIFT (Mastopexy)

A breast lift is a surgical procedure raises the breasts by removing excess skin while simultaneously tightening tissues to reshape and support the breasts. This is often performed after successful weight loss for patients with excess skin in combination with other procedures.

THIGH REDUCTION/LIFT

A thigh reduction or lift is a surgical procedure that removes excess skin and fat in the thighs, reshaping the thighs and resulting in smoother skin and lower body function post-weight loss.

LIPOSUCTION (lipoplasty, suction lipectomy)

Lipsuction is a procedure that removes excess fat from beneath the skin’s surface. For patients with significant weight loss, it is often combined with other advanced contouring procedures.

LOWER BODY LIFT

A lower body lift is a surgical procedure that removes excess skin and fat from the abdomen, waist, hips, buttocks, thighs to improve the shape and structure of these areas. It is often used for patients who have successfully lost larger amounts of weight.
