Within your intestines live up to 100 trillion microorganisms, called a microbiome, that aid digestion, help fight off dangerous organisms and toxins, may lower stress, and may improver hunger / satiety cues aiding weight loss or maintenance.  Studies indicate that obese individuals have lower insulin sensitivity, glean more calories from the foods they eat, and process sugar and fat differently–all because of their altered microbiome.  It’s easy to see the importance of promoting a healthy gut.
