Change 5: Get the Right Amount of Protein

To minimize your risk of kidney stones:

Reach your daily protein goal, but don’t overdo it. Too much protein can cause the kidneys to excrete more calcium and less citrate into the urine, creating an environment favorable to stone formation. To minimize this effect, space your protein intake throughout the day.
